iBuyFlowers.com is a Dutch initiative to bring better and cheaper flowers to US florist/ event planners. The desktop & mobile platform aims to directly connect florists and event planners to growers around the world in a very accessible and user-friendly way. With the fully automated logistics chain developed by iBuyFlowers, the wholesalers and importers of the traditional flower chain are eliminated, and the transportation time is reduced by 30-50%. The full transparency of the iBuyFlowers logistics chain allows customers to pick the desired source location and enjoy much cheaper prices.

The social impact of the iBuyFlowers platform ranges across many areas: the company works only with (Green) certified growers with labels like: Rainforest Alliance CertifiedVeriFloraBASCFairtradeFlower Label Program (FLP)  in order to protect the human rights of the farm employees, and guarantees payment to the growers within 2 weeks after shipment (opposed to 45-60 days in the industry). Also, due to a more efficient logistics strategy, a fair amount of CO2 emissions is saved, no damage is caused to flowers due to repackaging; and fewer flowers are wasted and thrown away during the transportation.

Project Description

iBuyFlowers will roll out a pilot from October until December 2016. During the pilot the company will visit approximately 200 florist retailers of which it is expected to connect 20 retailers (including some event planners) to the platform. The aim of this pilot is to validate the assumptions of the company business case: the needs and requirements of the US flower retailers; acceptance of the iBuyFlowers concept; and the need and usage of the iBuyFlowers ordering tool. The Consulting team is expected to support the pilot roll out with the following activities: sharpening the business plan and Unique Selling Proposition, desktop & mobile platform usage testing and data analysis.

Specific recommendations to be developed by the Consulting team are:

1.     Identify the US B2B flower market needs and opportunities (deadline 30/09)

a.     Identify the best market entry location into the US market for iBuyFlowers

                                               i.    Considering the competition, demand, city, size and average income

b.     Develop a recommendation for entry strategy and USP focus

2.     Develop recommendations to adjust and improve iBuyFlowers USP and business plan

a.     Data collection through contact with the florist retailers (Skype calls on company charges)

b.     Investigate the reasons why florist have refused to work with iBuyFlowers

c.     Utilize feedback of refusals and interviews to fine-tune business plan

d.     Investigate the arguments of the florists and how can the company increase their business to 50-70% to be bought through the platform

The managing team of iBuyFlowers will incorporate your recommendations when operative, tactical and strategic decisions are to be made in the near future.
